Kendall, founder of today\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 7-20-4 Cigars, has once again explored cigar history, reintroducing a second dusty brand &#8230; \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Hustler\u00e2\u20ac\u009d &#8230; a trademark that hails back to the late Nineteenth Century.\u00c2\u00a0 It follows the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s introductions of the 7-20-4 and 1874 boutique lines.<\/p>\n<p><b>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/b>In 2009, Kendall breathed new life into the venerable \u00e2\u20ac\u01537-20-4&#8243; brand name, acquiring the trademark for the original 7-20-4 line.\u00c2\u00a0 It was named after the 1874-founded manufacturer in Manchester, New Hampshire.\u00c2\u00a0 The company became the world\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s largest cigar producer, until the 1962 Embargo killed its supply of Cuban tobacco.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Hustler has a misty history,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d reports Kendall, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153which I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m still researching.\u00c2\u00a0 The brand dates back to a New York State birth in 1892.\u00c2\u00a0 I selected its original box art, because it almost leaps off the shelf.\u00c2\u00a0 It shows a dandy in full stride, toting a carpet bag and briefcase, with newspaper\u00c2\u00a0 and \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcbumbershoot\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 under each arm.\u00c2\u00a0 The jaunty angle of the cigar in his grin says this guy\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a hustler, in more ways than one.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>The Spanish cedar box holds an unusual 27 cigars, divided into three compartments.\u00c2\u00a0 Each holds nine cigars &#8230; all <i>parejos<\/i> &#8230; in 5-1\/2&#8243; x 52, 6&#8243; x 54 (both at $9.00 MSRP), plus 6-3\/8&#8243; x 58 ($11.00 MSRP).<\/p>\n<p>Hustler, entirely separate from Kendall\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s benchmark 7-20-4 line, is triple-capped for durability of their heads, and <i>entubado-<\/i>bunched, yielding a company-touted \u00e2\u20ac\u0153vertical integrity\u00e2\u20ac\u009d that ensures smooth draws and uniform burns.\u00c2\u00a0 They are made by Tabacos de Oriente in Danli, Honduras.\u00c2\u00a0 The tobaccos carry five years of aging, with the cigars resting another six months.\u00c2\u00a0 Kendall first released the line in November, and they are carried at retailers nationwide &#8230; see the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Find Our Cigars\u00e2\u20ac\u009d page on the company site (www.7-20-4.com) for local 7-20-4 tobacconists.<\/p>\n<p>The cigars themselves boast an\u00c2\u00a0 eye-catching twist &#8230; literally.\u00c2\u00a0 They are spirally-wrapped in a two-tone, barber-pole wrapper, with a dark and brawny Brazilian Mata Fina leaf and a contrasting tawny, Ecuadorian-grown Connecticut Shade leaf.\u00c2\u00a0 The heads are finished in a traditional Cuban-style\u00c2\u00a0 pigtail.\u00c2\u00a0 The Jamastran and Jalapa filler is held in a Costa Rican binder.\u00c2\u00a0 Hustler contains no relatively flavorless <i>ligero,<\/i> relying instead on the other tobaccos in the blends to gain its power.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Hustler is a medium-bodied smoke, with the spiral wrapper providing a visual emphasis to what Kendall calls it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u0153swirl of complex flavors and aroma.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kurt A.
